This 3 band AC superhet was restored, circa Sep 2005, on behalf of a friend whose mother had previously owned it . Electrically, there was very little wrong with the set, apart from two burnt out scale lamps. As the set has a 'live chassis', for safety's sake the original flat twin core mains cable was replaced with a modern cable so that the live and neutral leads could be correctly wired on the 13A plug. It was noted that the set had been modified, in that a silicon rectifier had been hard wired as a replacement for the normal rectifier valve, which was missing. It was decided to leave this modification in place, as the set was clearly working quite well. The majority of the resoration work therefore centred on a thorough clean-up, inside and out, and refurbishment of the cabinet exterior (two tone walnut stain and lacquer) and replacement of the speaker cloth. | |||
